Music Education for Children

Music for the Young Course Objectives

Positive Child development is at the heart of the Music for the Young Program. Each individual child has a different learning curve that needs to be addressed thru a multi sensory approach. The enjoyment and understanding of music will help a child develop in several areas. Music study in young children has been proven to enhance growth in the areas of problem solving skills, memory skills, self-esteem and self-expression skills. When music is properly introduced to children in the early years of mental development positive lifelong attributes will be established.
MFTY courses are structured in age appropriate courses designed to offer the best introductory music program for young children available. Classes are grouped in small sizes with groups of only 5 children being permitted per class. A parent, guardian or appropriate caregiver must accompany all children participating in the classes.

Music for the Young Curriculum
Our teachers strive to provide the best program possible in a small family oriented music forum. Small group sizes result in more teacher-student interaction with more teacher attention per child being made possible.

First Light program (Children 3-4 years of age)

  • Group singing
  • Fun with Rhythms
  • Fun with Keyboards
  • Fun with Listening
  • Music Appreciation

Early Light program (Children 5-6 years of age)

  • Singing with Lyrics
  • Rhythm Studies
  • Solfege (Do Re Mi)
  • Keyboard work (Middle C-G right hand/
    Middle C-F left hand)
  • Rudiments
  • Ensemble Performance
  • Music Appreciation

Course Duration

One year split into four semesters.
